Edward Guinness is the elder son of Mr Timothy Whitmore Newton Guinness (b 1947), of Ellisfield, Hampshire, by his wife the former Beverley Anne Mills, and Nancy is a daughter of Gerald Cadogan (b. 1942), of Culworth, Northamptonshire, scion of the Earls Cadogan, and Mrs Cadogan.

Sir (William) Marcus John Worsley, 5th Baronet (1925-2012)

_.Sir (William) Marcus John Worsley, 5th Baronet, died at his home Hovingham Hall, North Yorkshire, 18 Dec, 2012, aged 87. Sir Marcus served as Conservative MP for Keighley, 1959-64, and for Chelsea, 1966-74, was PPS to the Minister of Health 1960-61, to the Minister without Portfolio, 1962-64, and to the Lord President of the Council, 1970-72.

Sir Marcus, whose baronetcy of the UK was cr in 1838, served as Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, 1987-99, and was High Sheriff of North Yorks in 1982.

He was born 6 Apr, 1925, eldest son of Sir William Arthington Worsley, 4th Baronet (1890-1973), by his wife the former Joyce Morgan Brunner, dau of Sir John Brunner, 2nd Barronet (cr UK, 1895), and was a brother of Katharine Worsley, who married at York Minister in 1961, HRH The Duke of Kent, a first cousin of HM The Queen.

Worsley succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's demise in Dec, 1973, and he ran the Hovingham estate until handing it over to his son in 1987. He married 10 Dec, 1955, the Hon Bridget Assheton (who d 2004), daughter of the 1st Baron Clitheroe, PC (Peerage of the UK, cr 1955), by whom he had issue, three sons, William, Giles and Peter, and one daughter Sarah. He was predeceased by his youngest son.

The baronetcy passes to his eldest son, William Ralph, who was born 12 Sept, 1956.

_.Patricia Katharine Countess of Dundee, who died 3 December, 2012, at Birkhill by Cupar, Fife, was aged 102. Lady Dundee was a great-aunt of Sarah Duchess of York.

She was born Patricia Katharine Montagu Douglas Scott, 9 Oct, 1910, a scion of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry, the second daughter of Lord Herbert Montagu Douglas Scott (1872-1944), by his wife the former Marie Josephine Edwards (d 1965). Her elder sister Marian Louisa married (1) Col Andrew Ferguson, and was the grandmother of Sarah Duchess of York.

She married (1) 8 Jul 1931, Lt-Col Walter Douglas Faulkner, MC, who was killed in action in May, 1940; married (2) 9 Sept 1940, Lt-Col David Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, DSO, Scots Guards, scion of the arls of Dundee. He died of wounds in 1944. She married (3) 30 Oct 1946, her brother-in-law, Henry James Scrymgeour-Wedderburn (later Scrymgeour of Dundee), de jure, later de facto 11th Earl of Dundee, PC (1902-1983).

She had issue from her three marriages, a son David James Faulkner, b 1932 (dec.), from her first union, 2 daughters from the second marriage, Janet Mary (now Mrs Fox-Pitt), b 1941, and Elizabeth, Baroness Teynham b. 1943, wife of the 20th Baron Teynham (and mother of 10); and 1 son from the third marriage, Alexander Henry Scrymgeour of Dundee, 12th Earl of Dundee, who was b 5 Jun 1949.

Baby for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

 _.The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby in the summer of 2013. The royal baby will be born third in line and in direct succession to the throne after the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge.

He or she will one day be head of the armed forces, supreme governor of the Church of England and subsequently head of state of 16 countries.


Under the terms of the letters patent laid down by King George V in 1917 only the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales is born a prince with the HRH handle.

A son would be born HRH Prince (Christian name) of Cambridge.

If the baby is girl then under the 1917 ruling she will be born Lady (Christian name) Windsor but it is expected that Her Majesty the Queen will make an announcement next year regarding the titles to be borne by the children of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge. A princess (and future Queen) would be known as HRH Princess _______of Cambridge.

He was born 13 June, 1923, a son of Capt the Hon Lionel Michael St Aubyn, MVO (1878-1965), sometime Equerry to HRH The Duchess of Albany, by his wife the former Lady Mary Theresa Parker (1881-1932), daughter of the 3rd Earl of Morley (1843-1905).

He married 21 Nov, 1954, Henrietta Mary, daughter of Sir Henry Gray Studholme, 1st Baronet, CVO, MP, by whom he had issue.

_.Sir Hugh Reid, 3rd (and last) Baronet, died in County Galway, 20 November, 2012. He was 78. He was born 27 Nov, 1933, at Locharron, Ross-shire, the son of Sir Douglas Neilson Reid, 2nd Baronet, by his wife the former Margaret Brighton Young Maxtone, and succeeded his father in the baronetcy (cr 1922) in 1971. He was unmarried and the title now becomes extinct. Sir Hugh is survived by his sister, Joan Quinn, who is the mother of 3 sons and four daughters. _.Sonia Isabel Jane Hunter of Hunterston, who died in Paris, 20 November, 2012, aged 82, was the widow of Neil Aylmer Hunter, 29th of Hunterston (1926-1994). She was the former Sonia Furlong and married in 1952. Her husband, born Neil Kennedy-Cochran-Patrick, scion of that Scottish landed family, succeeded as head of the family on the death of his aunt, Eleanora, the 28th of Hunterston (nee Kennedy-Cochran-Patrick), who died in 1984. 

Sonia's husband assumed the surname of Hunter of Hunterston and was recognised in the surname and arms of Hunter of Hunterston by Lord Lyon King of Arms in 1969.

__.Bishop Justin Welby, the Old Etonian Bishop of Durham, who is expected to be named as Archbishop of Canterbury, has a distinguished lineage which includes Marshal of the RAF Charles Portal, 1st Viscount Portal of Hungerford, who was chief of the Air Staff though most of the Second World War, and he counts the Stuart kings among his ancestors.

Welby (b 6 Jan 1956), is eleven generations in descent from the Merrie Monarch King Charles II and his French mistress Louise Renee de Penancoet de Keroualle, via their son Charles Lennox, who was created Duke of Richmond. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall is also a Lennox descendant and thus a kinswoman of the primate-to-be.

The bishop's royal genes have been passed down from Welby's mother, Jane, Lady Williams of Elvel. Another collateral is the 18th century statesman Charles James Fox.

George Francis Lane Fox (1931-2012)

_. Maj. George Francis Lane Fox, head of the landed family, of Bramham Park, Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, died at his home, 9 October, 2012. He was 81.

He was born 15 May, 1931, eldest son of Lt-Col Francis Gordon Ward-Jackson (1899-1989), by his wife, the Hon Marcia Agnes Mary Lane Fox (1904-80), eldest of the four daughters of the 1st (and last) Baron Bingley, who had no sons. In 1937, Lt-Col Ward Jackson assumed the surname of Lane Fox in lieu of Jackson.

George Lane Fox was educated at Eton & RMC; career:- landowner, served as Major in the Royal Horse Guards, &c.

He married 10 Aug 1962, (Helen) Victoria, only daughter of Maj Charles Edward Rodney Duff, 8th Royal Irish Hussars, by whom he had issue, three sons, George, James and Edward. Mrs Lane Fox died 30 Nov, 1997.

He succeeded as head of the Lane Fox family by his eldest son, Capt George Charles Nicholas Lane Fox, who was born 25 Dec, 1963.

She was born Caroline Judith Vivienne (Judy) Cooke, daughter of Lt-Col. Geoffrey Cooke, of Little Orchard, Sunningdale, co Berkshire, and married 2 Sept, 1965, William Rudolph Michael Feilding, 11th Earl of Denbigh (1943-95) (Peerage of England, cr 1622), and 10th Earl of Desmond (Peerage of Ireland, also cr 1622), who died 23 Mar, 1995.

Lady Denbigh leaves one son, Alexander, 12th Earl of Denbigh, and 2 daughters, Lady Samantha Hurley and Lady Louisa Barton.

The Lady Kinloss (1922-2012)

_.The Lady Kinloss, 12th in line (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1601/2), died in hospital, 30 September, 2012, aged 90. Lady Kinloss, Beatrice Mary Freeman-Grenville, lived at Sheriff Hutton, near York.

She was born 18 Aug 1922, daughter of Rev. Hon Luis Grenville, Master of Kinloss (1889-Aug 1944), by his wife the former Katherine Jackman; succeeded to the peerage, 17 Oct, 1944, on the demise of her grandmother, Mary Temple Nugent-Brydges-Grenville, later Morgan, later Morgan-Grenville, suo jure Lady Kinloss.

She married in 1950, Greville Stewart Parker Freeman, later Freeman-Grenville (d 2005), by whom she had issue, one son Bevil, styled Master of Kinloss (1953-2012), and 2 daughters, Teresa and Hester.

The peerage now devolves upon her Ladyship's elder daughter, Teresa Mary Nugent Grenville Freeman-Grenville, Mistress of Kinloss, who was b. 20 July, 1957. She is unm.

Her Highness Princess Ragnhild, Mrs Lorentzen (1930-2012)

_.Her Highness Princess Ragnhild, Mrs Lorentzen, who died at her home in Rio de Janeiro, 16 September, 2012, was a daughter of Olav V, King of Norway, and a sister of King Harald.

She was born Princess Ragnhild Alexandra of Norway, at Oslo, 9 June 1930, the first child of the then Crown Prince Olav and his wife Princess Martha of Sweden. The Princess was a great-grandaughter of Britain's King Edward VII, and a great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

She married 15 May, 1953, Erling Sven Lorentzen (b Oslo, 28 Jan, 1923), and had three children. She is survived by her husband.

The Norwegian royal family attended the princess's funeral in the chapel of the Royal Palace, Oslo, 28 Sept, 2012.

Sir John Christopher Smith-Dodsworth, 8th Baronet 1935-2012

_.Sir John Christopher Smith-Dodsworth, 8th Baronet (Baronetcy GB, cr 1784), formerly of Thornton Watlass Hall, Ripon, and Coromandel, New Zealand, died 21 September, 2012, aged 77.

He was born 4 March, 1935, son of Sir Claude Matthew Smith-Dodsworth (1888-1940), by his wife the former Cyrilla Marie Louise Taylor.

He was educated at Ampleforth; succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 18 May, 1940; was thrice married, firstly, in 1961 (div 1971), to Margaret Anne Jones; 2ndly, in 1972, to Margaret Theresa Grey, who died in 1990, and thirdly in 1991, to Lolita Pulante.

Sir John leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage, a son from the second, and a son and a daughter from the third. The baronetcy devolves upon his eldest son, David John Smith-Dodsworth, who was born 23 Oct, 1963.

The duchess was the mother of three sons and four daughters, and was predeceased by one son, the 11th Duke (1953-95), and by one daughter, Lady Louise Percy, who died in infancy in 1962. She is survived by 2 sons, the 12th Duke and Lord James Percy, and by 3 daughters, Caroline Countess de Cabarrus, Lady Victoria Fellowes, and Lady Julia Craig Harvey.

She was born Nicole Marie Charlotte Pierrette Jeanne Schneider, at Paris, 29 June, 1920, daughter of Paul Scneider by his wife Marguerite Durand; married firstly, circa 1938, Henri Milinaire, by whom she had four children; married 2ndly, 1960, as his third wife, the 13th Duke of Bedford (1917-2002), of Woburn Abbey. Her husband died at Santa Fe, New Mexico, 25 Oct, 2002. She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter.

_. Tara Siobhan Legge (nee ffrench-Mullen, b 6 May, 1970), wife of Alex B. Legge, gave birth to a daughter, India Jemima Alice, 25 Aug 2012.

Alex Legge is the only son of Mr and Mrs Colin Legge, of Bullocks Horn, Malmesbury, and Tara is the younger daughter of the late Mr Timothy Fitzgerald ffrench-Mullen (d 1982), by his wife the former Penelope Margaret Cecil Cave-Brown-Cave (b 1931), scion of the Cave-Brown-Cave Baronets (E, 1641).

Colonel Sir James Malcolm, 12th Baronet (1930-2012)

_.Colonel Sir James William Thomas Alexander Malcolm, 12th Baronet (Baronetcy, Nova Scotia, cr 1665), died 4 September, 2012. He was 82.

Sir James was Colonel, Welsh Guards, and Appeals Director, British Heart Foundation, 1976-89.

He was b 15 May, 1930, son of Arthur William Alexander Malcolm, CVO (1903-89) by his wife the former Hester Mary Mann, and succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his cousin, Sir David, in 1995.

He married in 1955, Gillian Heather Humpherus, by whom he had issue. His son, Maj. Alexander James Elton Malcolm, Welsh Guards (b 30 Aug 1956), succeeds as thirteenth baronet.

Letanka / Grimston engagement

Peter Letanka is a grandson maternally of the 4th Earl of Cranbrook.

_.Nina Tryon (née Farnell-Watson), wife of the Hon Edward Henry Tryon (b 1979), gave birth to a daughter, Isabella Anna, in London, 24 August, 2012, a sister for Mila Dale, who was b 14 March, 2011, in London. Edward is the younger.— son of The 3rd Baron Tryon and the late Baroness Tryon, of Comrie, Perthshire, and Nina is a daughter of Peter and Bunny Farnell- Watson, of Richmond, Surrey.

The (4th) Baron Trevethin & (2nd) Baron Oaksey, OBE (1929-2012)

_.John Geoffrey Tristram Lawrence, 4th Baron Trevethin (Peerage of the UK, cr 1921) & 2nd Baron Oaksey (Peerage of the UK, cr 1947), died 5 September, 2012, aged 83.

'John Oaksey', jockey, journalist, broadcaster and author was founded of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

He was born 21 March, 1929, son of Geoffrey Lawrence, judge, Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, who was created the 1st Baron Oaksey in 1947 and who succeeded as 3rd Baron Trevethin on the death of his elder brother in 1959. John succeeded to both baronies on his father's demise, 28 Aug, 1971.

He was twice married, firstly in 1959 (divorced 1987), Victoria Mary Dennistoun; and secondly, in 1988, to Mrs Rachel Crocker (nee Hunter).

The peerages now devolve upon his son from his first marriage, the Hon Patrick John Tristram Lawrence, who was b 29 June, 1960.

Lucy J. Berridge (née Cary-Elwes), wife of Ross A. Berridge, and scion of the LG family of Elwes, of Roxby, gave birth to a daughter, Emilia Anna Margaret, 21 August, 2012, a sister for Alexander & Cassia. 

Ross is a son of Dr and Mrs Neil Berridge, of Melrose, the Borders, and Lucy is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Cary-Elwes, of Dulwich, London.
